Sustainability and the Environment

Devonshire Windows have been providing insulation glazing products for new buildings and refurbishments for 30 years.

Composite Decking Newton Abbot

Reducing heat loss in buildings reduces the energy used to heat the building and saves CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Wherever possible we send waste materials recovered from our refurbishment activity and our production facility to be recycled. We source our components from reliable reputable suppliers who hold similar views on running a business and the impact on the environment. Over the last few years we have been working on reducing the paper used in our business and this has recently been boosted by providing our sales and surveying staff with electronic tablets.

Getting to know our clients and their needs helps us to recommend products that will be most beneficial and aesthetically pleasing. We supply windows and doors in all shapes and sizes made from timber, PVC-U and aluminium. These products all have impacts on the
environment and the material suppliers have organisations who help to steer the suppliers towards lower environmental impact.

Wood
Windows made from wood are becoming more popular.
Advances in surface treatment finishes and construction
methods are making windows and doors fabricated from
timber being viewed as the most sustainable as well as the
most attractive solution. The Forest Stewardship Council
(FSCĀ®) logo on a wood or wood-based product is your
assurance that it is made with, or contains, wood that comes from FSCĀ® certified forests or from post-consumer waste.

Aluminium

Aluminium has several significant sustainability benefits.
It is very durable so can last for long periods of time
without replacement and with little or no maintenance. It
is 100% recyclable and is one of the few metals that can
be repeatedly recycled with no loss of quality. The act of
recycling aluminium also requires only 5% of the energy
needed to produce new aluminium.

PVC
PVC-U windows and doors provide cost effective energy
efficient glazing solutions for house builders and renovators and require minimal maintenance during their lifespan. PVC-U, like all other thermoplastic materials, can be recycled relatively straightforwardly. The primary aim of recycling is to elicit a net environmental benefit through reducing the use of primary resources and/or diverting resources from landfill.

Glass
Sealed unit production and glass coating technology has
advanced rapidly over the last 10 years and the u values
which can now be achieved whilst still allowing high light
transmittance are helping designers to take advantage
of solar gain in their building performance calculations.
Positive energy flow into the building quickly off sets the
energy usage during production and processing. Glass
coatings reduce CO2 emissions in use and enhance the
comfort of the building for the occupants.
